 Bantry Bay,
New South Wales, Australia - off Middle Harbour, Garigal National
Park, was set up to house
commercial and industrial explosives, as used in public
works like the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney's underground railways
and the Newcastle Highway, or by mining and construction companies.
Due to its isolation, workers stayed overnight and became a community. It has a real place
in
Sydney's history as a working harbour. The western shores of the Bantry Bay
magazine complex are closed to public access because of
contamination from old explosives.
